Applying for a Passport in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania was among the most affected states by the February 2026 library terminations. Many suburban Philadelphia and Pittsburgh residents relied on libraries. County prothonotary offices (Pennsylvania's county clerk equivalent) and USPS are now the primary options.

To apply for your first U.S. passport (or to replace a lost/expired one), you must appear in person at an authorized acceptance facility. In Pennsylvania, this means a USPS post office, county clerk or recorder office, or a city/town hall with State Department authorization.

Philadelphia's 30th Street Station post office is one of the highest-volume USPS passport locations in the Mid-Atlantic. County prothonotary offices handle passports in most of Pennsylvania's 67 counties.

What to Bring in Pennsylvania

Requirements are federal and identical in every state. For all in-person DS-11 applications bring: completed (unsigned) DS-11 form, certified birth certificate plus photocopy, government-issued photo ID plus photocopy, a 2×2 compliant passport photo, and payment — Pennsylvania30 book or Pennsylvania00 for children under 16 (check/money order to "U.S. Department of State") plus a separate 675 acceptance fee to the facility.
