Applying for a Passport in Florida

Florida has 67 counties and year-round high passport demand driven by cruise departures, Caribbean travel, and a large retiree population renewing 10-year passports. Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, and Orange counties all have multiple acceptance facilities.

To apply for your first U.S. passport (or to replace a lost/expired one), you must appear in person at an authorized acceptance facility. In Florida, this means a USPS post office, county clerk or recorder office, or a city/town hall with State Department authorization.

South Florida was significantly impacted by library closures. County clerk offices and USPS are now absorbing that demand, with appointment slots filling 3–4 weeks out in peak season (March–June). The Miami-Dade Clerk of Courts offers dedicated passport services at multiple locations.

What to Bring in Florida

Requirements are federal and identical in every state. For all in-person DS-11 applications bring: completed (unsigned) DS-11 form, certified birth certificate plus photocopy, government-issued photo ID plus photocopy, a 2×2 compliant passport photo, and payment — Florida30 book or Florida00 for children under 16 (check/money order to "U.S. Department of State") plus a separate 675 acceptance fee to the facility.
